Should one of our guests require medical attention while aboard the Vasco da Gama, the Medical Center staff is available to assist 24 hours a day. The on board medical centers are staffed and equipped to treat routine medical conditions as well as to initiate stabilization of more serious conditions. Physicians are available to render services at a customary fee. While at sea or in port, the availability of medical care may be limited.
In the case of severe emergencies, cruise passengers with injuries or life-threatening illnesses can be evacuated off the ship. This is usually attempted at a port of call, but if that is not possible the ship may request a helicopter evacuation.
Please note that most basic insurance policies will not cover treatments given at sea. Extremely comprehensive insurance policies may help defray some costs of medical care on a cruise ship, or travelers may be able to purchase travel insurance plans that specifically include medical clauses.
