Chalon was founded by the Gallic Aedui tribe in the fourth century to gain better access to the trade routes along the Saône. Building elements from different time periods are still visible, for example the remains of the city walls built by the Germanic people in the third/fourth century, the Saint Vincent medieval part of town with its late gothic half-timbered houses or the noble houses in the classical style from the 17th-19th centuries. You’ll experience the lively atmosphere of this historic town during your walking tour. This tour will start in the large open square in front of the Town Hall (the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville) where you can see various buildings of interest: among the notable buildings in this square are the town hall, the large Church of Saint-Pierre, and the Museum Denon. The Church of Saint-Pierre is interesting for its imposing baroque style facade.
